Send Flowers Send Flowers
Our community sadly lost Roger L. Dames on Thursday, September 7 at the age of 74. Roger was born August 5, 1949 in West Point to Willis and Ardean 'Alberts' Dames. He was raised on the farm by Trinity Church with his four brothers. He attended District 25 'Mud Creek' school through the 8th grade, Scribner High School, and later graduated from Wayne State College in Accounting, before returning to Scribner. He worked a long 40 year career in the farming industry for Coop (Snyder and Scribner) and Scribner Grain where he took much joy in helping the local farming industry and making great friends in the community.

Roger married Renee Barker (1975-2001) and together they had 2 children Wayne and April. He was a loving father, brother and grandfather. He is survived by his son (Wayne and Jill Dames and their three children Talan, Brooklyn and Chase), daughter (April and Travis Peterson and their three children Briella, Tenley and Braxton), four brothers (Richard and Susan Dames, Robert and Lori Dames, Ronald and Cheryl 'Tootie' Dames and Reed Dames). Roger was an active member of Trinity Church and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner. Roger also served his community as a city councilman. Roger enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren in Phoenix, attending sporting events, crafting woodworking projects, doing home and car repairs and serving his community.

The funeral will be held at 1pm, Friday, September 15, 2023 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner with burial to follow at Trinity Cemetery. The Rev. Bruce Schut will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Trinity Cemetery Association. Visitation will be Thursday from 3pm to 8pm with the family present from 5pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel in Scribner.

  1. RogerTBA Hasenkamp
My prayers to the family. He will be missed. We attended the same church when growing up. I have fond memories of Roger.
  2. Janis Poppe
To the Dames families, I am so sorry for your loss. Roger was always so helpful in the Co-op lumber yard and with paint as I struggled to get the right thing. His woodworking was special. He was very kind and compassionate to work with. I believe Wayne worked for us one summer in the vegetables. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
In sympathy and love, Janis Poppe
  3. Kris Richardson
My thoughts and prayers are with the family. While I did not know Mr Dames personally I was so lucky to hear wonderful stories from April about her dad, his brothers and the family farm, as well as what an amazing father and grandfather he was. May those fond memories provide comfort to help you through this difficult time.
  4. Nancy (Kelberlau) Kean
My deepest sympathy to the entire Dames family. I will miss seeing him on the farm and especially during harvest time. May God grant him peace.
  5. Lynn and Joleen Wooldrik
Our deepest sympathies to all of Roger's family. Rest in peace, Roger.
  6. Jim Kull
My deepest sympathy to the Dames family. Roger was a good friend through high school. My best friend through four years at Wayne State as we were roommates. We enjoyed many sporting events, concerts, road trips, and of course parties. We had classes together and helped each other get through it. We graduated together. Unfortunately the military and then work took me away from Scribner. When I got the opportunity to come back and visit, Roger would one of the first I would hook up with. Usually meeting at our old hang out Mel’s Bar. As my family grew the obligations have kept me away for too long. I regret not seeing him for so long and having our talks. RIP my friend. Save me a beer in heaven. We will meet again.
  7. Wayne Stuehmer
We enjoyed having meals with Roger and Curtis after basketball games. We will miss his smile and his laugh and his friendship
