LaVerle was born January 21, 1911 in Rural Nickerson to John and Jessie 'Bahner' Ehninger. LaVerle grew up on the family farm and attended District #20 school. She graduated from Hooper High School and then attended Fremont Normal where she received her teaching certificate. LaVerle taught at Districts #75 & #20 School for 6 years. She married William J. Liston on June 4, 1935 at her parent's home in Nickerson. The couple farmed in the area until retiring in 1972. LaVerle and William moved into Hooper in 1983.

LaVerle was an organizer and charter member of the Elkhorn Valley Extension Club and served on the Dodge County Extension Board. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran, (formerly Grace Lutheran) Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was a member of the Lutheran Church Women and Altar Guild. LaVerle's community involvement included membership in the Hooper Women's Club, Christian Women's Club, Dodge County Republican Party, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Arie #200 of Fremont and leadership in Girl Scouts and 4-H. She and William traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad.

LaVerle was preceded in death by her husband William in 1999, her parents and a sister Marguerite Brand.

The funeral will be on Wednesday February 27 at 10:30am in Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hooper. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hooper Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Redeemer Lutheran Church. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel. Visitation will also be one hour before service at the church in Hooper.
