She taught English at Midland Lutheran College, worked in academic administration, including a period as Academic Dean at the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, and recently retired as executive director of the Fremont Area Community Foundation.

Betsy was an enthusiastic traveler and spent many vacations in Italy with Jerry and their friends, as well as numerous trips throughout the United States. In recent years she was an avid birder.

She was a member of Rotary International and the Nebraska Ornithologists' Union. She valued the many friends she made in the local academic community, as well through her work with the Fremont Area Community Foundation and with the Nebraska amateur and professional ornithologists.
