Send Flowers Send Flowers
Douglas Kent Ludvigsen was born on December 14, 1945 to Elmer and Lois 'Dahl' Ludvigsen in Fremont, Nebraska. Doug spent his childhood growing up in Fremont on his family's acreage. He attended Garden City Elementary School, Fremont Jr. High School, and graduated from Fremont High School. After completing high school Doug attended Midland Lutheran for two years. After two years of college, Doug decided to enlist in the United States Air Force and served his country for four years. He spent his time in the Air Force working in the White House Communication Room. He also was able to make several flights on Air Force one with multiple presidents. When Douglas got out of the military, he decided to go back to college to earn his degree. He earned his bachelor's degree in Political Science from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia in 1972. Douglas went on to earn his Masters in Public Administration from DePaul University in Chicago. Douglas went to Work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1972 and was assigned to work in Chicago. During his 22 years in Chicago he spent time working in "white collar crimes", gangs, and in a Special Operations Group. After his time in Chicago, Doug transferred to Tucson, Arizona in 1997 where he spent five years before his retirement in 2002. After retiring Doug worked part time as contact consultant for the government.

Douglas married the love of his life, Dee Anne Carlstrom on June 7, 1969 in Fremont, Nebraska. He had two sons, Markus John born on July 28, 1974, and Michael Kent born on July 16, 1978. Doug really enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He spent a lot time serving God by being actively involved with his Church. Some of Doug's favorite activities included playing golf, attending Nebraska Cornhusker football games, and traveling with his family. On one trip with his family he found his favorite place to relax, which was Cabo San Lucas, on the Baja peninsula in Mexico. In the spring of 2008 Doug faced the biggest challenge of life when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. He faced this challenge with dignity and the support of his family and friends. His faith in the Lord helped him to accept this challenge and not feel pity for himself. During his battle with cancer, Doug was more worried about his family's well being than himself. On the morning of August 4, 2009 the Lord called Douglas home to be with him. This is a day that the world lost an amazing person and heaven gained a true hero.

We were saddened by the untimely death of Doug. We didn't know Doug or his wife & children, but knowing you Larry we're sure that he was also a good, kind, & generous man. It sounds like he fought a very valiant battle which he unfortunately lost. Please take comfort in the fact that he is not only in a better place, but is no longer suffering. Jon, as you related to me recently you have very fond memories of your Uncle. Cherish those memories & find comfort in them. Jim & LaNette Redmon

Dear Ludvigsen families, I am so sorry you have lost Doug. As I haven't seen him since we graduated, unfortunately I didn't get to know him as a man. He certainly had an interesting and successful life and I know you miss him terribly, but be assured God will help you find peace. You are in my prayers.

Doug's challenge was "fought well" and I'm sure he had a wonderful support group in his family and friends, as you all went through this difficult time. The memories you hold of Doug will keep him close to you till you meet again, as God has promised. May you find comfort in hearing from your friends, just as you have so willingly given to so many others. This is a difficult time for each of you, and you are in my prayers.

Doug and I were good friends from age 3 thru college and even tho we parted ways after college I still always considered him my friend. We grew up during the 60's and had a lot of good times together. It was an honor to be best man at his and Dee's wedding. I will remember him fondly and will constantly recall some of our antics. We are so sorry for your loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I remember with fondness the entire Ludvigsen family. All of you not only brought blessings into our community but very much into my life. Doug advised me many times on how to best handle unique challenges that came my way. He was a steady influnece in the church and a faithful server. Dee was and still is special and I recall with joy my memories of the two "blondies" with their ever present and infectious smiles. I'm sure that under the tutelage of Doug and Dee they have turned into fine young men. God give all of you Easter joy in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. "...in Christ are all made alive." No doubt about it..
