Vernice was born November 7, 1935 to Harold and Viola 'Flamme' Schnoor, and grew up on a farm by Snyder, Nebraska. She graduated from Scribner High School in 1953. She attended Midland Lutheran College and in 1989, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She spent her career teaching at multiple schools and after retirement, she was a substitute teacher.
Vernice was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Snyder until it closed. She then attended St. John Ridgeley Lutheran Church near Scribner and St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner. Vernice was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary since 1960.
She loved visiting all her family and friends, playing cards and taking pictures. She also attended as many sports events as possible.

and Vicki Smeal
Son-in-law - Robin Groene and Daughters-in-law - Donna Vakiner and Patrice Vakiner
She also has many loving grand, great grand, and great great grandchildren plus many more extended family.
Vernice was preceded in death by husbands Melvin Killingsworth and Clifford C. Vakiner, sons Randy Killngsworth and Clifford 'Bud' Vakiner, daughter Cathy Groene, grandson Ryan Groene, son-in-law Delwin Smeal, brothers LeRoy and William Schnoor and sister-in-law Diane Schnoor.
There is no viewing but the family will receive friends on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 5pm to 7pm at Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel. The memorial service will be 2pm, Friday, December 6 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner. Burial will be in the Scribner Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or St. John Ridgeley Lutheran Church.

Omaha, NE Monday, December 2, 2024 Mrs Vakiner was absolutely one of the best Teachers a student could hope for. She was kind and caring. Heaven certainly gained an Angel.
