passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Shalimar Gardens in Fremont.
Nanette Sampter Missel was born March 22, 1925, in Fremont to Gerald and Marie 'Pettit' Sampter. She was raised in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School in 1943 during the worst of WWII. After high school she attended Monticello College in Godfrey, Illinois for two years attaining her associate degree. Then Nanette went to Colorado for summer courses at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1947. She ended up staying and graduated with a teaching degree. She also attended the College of Education in Chicago, Illinois (now Northwestern University) for additional courses in education.
Nanette taught in Sterling, CO. and Mount Clemens, MI. in her early career. She lived in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Copony while teaching Kindergarten at Grant School in Mount Clemens. It was while living there that she was introduced to their former tenant and her future husband, Henry F. Missel.
Next, Nanette accepted a teaching position in Lorain, Ohio where she taught for two years. Henry would drive every weekend from Mount Clemens to Lorain to see her. They married on July 12th of 1953 at the Sampter family home on Nye Avenue in Fremont, NE.
Henry accepted a teaching position in Dearborn, Michigan, where he would serve until his retirement.
Nanette and Henry loved their many friends and neighbors in Dearborn and created wonderful memories and lasting friendships. Nanette and Henry enjoyed several trips to Europe that they took as part of the group from the local community college.
Nanette was the kindest person you could ever meet. She devoted her life to her family and God. Nanette was genuine, caring, and loving to all that knew her.
Both Nanette and Henry moved back to Fremont in the summer of 2006 to be closer to family.
Nanette was a member of the Fremont Presbyterian Church. She was a member of PEO Chapter AJ, and had been active with the AAUW (American Association of University Women).

Megan (Josh) Nuttelman and their children Asher and Addison
Jennifer McKearney and her daughter Molly
Brittany (Ian) Kirk and their son Cooper

Frederick (Chesli) Missel
Michael Missel
Nanette was preceded in death by her husband Henry in 2012 and daughter-in-law Michele Missel in 2022.
There is no viewing but the family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel from 5pm to 7pm. The memorial service will be 10:30am, Thursday at the Fremont Presbyterian Church. Rev. Sara Tonje will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church or May Museum, in Fremont.
