On June 3, 1945, Evelyn Cerny married Arnold Legband in St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Snyder, NE. They farmed 5 miles south of Snyder. Along with farming, her husband began a corn cob business. Then he started the Elkhorn Valley Farm Products business in North Bend. When he sold the business to Terra Chemicals, they transferred him to Sioux City, Iowa. Then they lived in Creston, Iowa where he managed an ammonia plant. Then they moved to Omaha, and in 1974, they moved to Fremont. Here, he started Agland Products, and later he founded Magnum Builders here. Evelyn was the bookkeeper for her husband's businesses.
Evelyn was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont and its Ruth Circle. Over the years, she had done a lot of volunteer work. A lot of her time was devoted to the Low Income Ministry, and to Habitat for Humanity. She was known as the doll lady. She repaired and gave away thousands of dolls, some to those living in Habitat houses and to people in nursing homes. She had been the recipient of an Aksarben 'Good Deeds' Award.
