Jean was born December 12, 1930 on the farm near Scribner. During her sophomore high school year, she moved with her family to a farm near Nickerson. She had attended 2 years of high school in Scribner, and then 2 years of high school in Hooper where she graduated in 1948. She attended Midland College in Fremont for a year, and taught school.

On June 3, 1951, Jean Liston was married in Grace Lutheran Church of Hooper to John Scoville. Due to his employment with Northern Natural Gas Co., the couple lived in several different communities during their married years, and retired in Omaha. John died on January 1, 1988. Later, Jean moved to Fremont to make her home in the Pathfinder House, and in December of 2005, she returned to Omaha.

Jean had been a faithful volunteer at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha for several years. Years ago, when living in Lyons, NE, she had been active in her church's choir. She had also been involved with the Meals on Wheels program, and with community concerts. Other interests of Jean were gardening and painting. Jean was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Hooper.
