He served in the United States Army during the years of 1943 to 1946. Following his military service, he returned to work briefly for Kavich Furniture and the Dept. of Utilities. Then in 1959, he went to work for the United States Post Office, retiring from there in 1980. In his retirement he operated a lawn service and worked part time at Kavich's.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he had served as an Elder, and was also active in the PTL. He was a Past President of the Izaak Walton League, Past President of the National Association of Federal Employees, and Past President of the AARP. He was also quite active as a Boy Scout Leader.
On February 24 of 1940, he was married in Crete, Nebraska to Bertha M. Nerud, and they recently celebrated their 68th Anniversary.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Ernesti, a grandson Fredrick Ernesti, 4 sisters, Elnora Johnson, Viola Ryne, Bernice Quick, and Doris Cook.
The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday (April 11th) in Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Meyer officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery with the Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard of American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854.
Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be Thursday from 2 to 8 PM, and at the church Friday morning for an hour before the service.
