Helen was born August 14, 1899 in rural Oakland, Nebraska to Henry and Anna 'Munderloh' Suhr. At the age of 4 Helen and her family moved to Uehling. She was baptized and then confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church north of Hooper. She then attended and graduated from Uehling High School in 1914. At the age of 16 Helen went to work for the Fred Steckelberg Merchandise Store in Uehling. During this time she also began playing the piano for the movie theaters, accompanying the motion pictures. Helen was married March 12, 1924 at her parent's home in Uehling to Harry J. Peters. After their marriage they made their home on a farm a mile west of Scribner. They retired and moved into Scribner in 1954.
