Ken was born Sept. 22, 1941 in Stratton, Nebraska to Jack and Katherine 'Porter' Shotbolt. His early childhood was spent in Stratton. Following the death of his father in 1953, when Ken was 12 years of age, Ken and his brother Jerry became residents of the Masonic-Eastern Star Home for Children in Fremont. Ken lived there until graduating from Fremont High School in 1959.

In January of 1961 Ken entered the United States Navy. He served on the aircraft carrier, BonHomme Richard, and had 2 tours to Japan. Following his discharge in January of 1965, he moved to Burbank, California and went to work for the Coca Cola Bottling Co. He met his future wife in California, and on October 6, 1966, Ken was married to Sharon Moisant in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the fall of 1968, they moved to Fremont where Ken worked for Hormel's for 30 years, retiring in 1998. In the spring of 1999, Ken went to work part-time for Ace Hardware in Fremont.

Ken loved anything to do with golf. At one time he was making and repairing golf clubs for himself and for friends. He enjoyed taking vacations, especially going to Las Vegas.

  1. Dennie and Jeri Nutzman
Sharon Shotbolt and family, I was deeply saddened to learn about Ken and his far too early passing. Since I live in a different state now, it took awhile for the news to get to me. Ken and I have a long history together dating back to our time at the home. I certainly wish that I had stayed in closer contact with him when I was in Fremont. I did talk to Ken about two months ago and he gave no indication to me at that time that he was ill. I will call you at a later date and share some of my earliest memories. Again, I share your sorrow and sadness. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Jack, I was sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. You're in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
  3. Mark Voss
Dear Sharon and Jack & family, My prayers go out to you in the passing of Ken. The Voss family always appreciated our relationship with the Shotbolt's. Growing up in Sunset was a great time and having the Shotbolts as neighbors and friends was things we still talk about today when we all get together. We will miss Ken but know he is with Jesus and has no more pain. Love, Mark
  4. Donna and Doug Simonson
Kenny fought the good fight. While a member of Valley View he endured chemo twice that we know of. He never complained, he always had a smile on his face and we will miss him. He was a good guy! Our sincere sympathy to his family!
