In January of 1941, Ted joined the United States Army. He went through boot camp in Oregon, and while there, met Mabel Ferry. They became engaged, then he left to fulfill his military obligation. He served in the South Pacific under combat conditions, administering first aid to wounded soldiers until they could be moved to a hospital.
On January 3, 1945, Ted and Mabel Ferry were married in Missouri. They moved to Lincoln, where Ted finished his military service as an orderly in the Veteran's Hospital in Lincoln, while Mabel worked for Western Electric. During this time, the Niederkofler's had two children, Ann and Ronald. Upon retiring, the family moved to Oregon, and then when their health began to decline, the couple moved to Fremont, and later into Merrick Manor in Fremont.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife Mabel in January of this year, and by brothers Joseph and Ed.
