Gladys was born December 23, 1910 near Big Springs, Nebraska to Edward and Anna 'Sonnenberg' Condy. She was baptized in the Methodist church in March of 1911. She grew up and attended a rural school north of Big Springs. Gladys graduated from Big Springs High School in May of 1929. She joined the Methodist church early in her youth.

After high school Gladys taught in rural schools 9 ½ years near Big Springs, Brule and Ogallala, Nebraska. She then attended Chadron College and Kearney State (called Kearney Normal at the time).

Gladys married Harold P. Kenfield in Brule, Nebraska on June 15, 1936 at her home. They lived in Ogallala for six years. They moved to Holdrege March 19, 1942. She was active in the United Methodist Church, WSCS (now called U.M.W.) She was president of U.M.W. She was a member of Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron in 1951, member of Entre Nous Club, card clubs, Hospital Service League, Community Concert Association Board, Bible Study groups, Bloodmobile for 24 years, volunteer at Methodist memorial Homes and twelve years on the MMH Board, bowling league and attended functions at the Senior Citizen Center.

After the death of Harold in November of 1970 Gladys was married to the Rev. Charles Bartsch of Fleming, CO. on March 19, 1972. They lived near Fleming, CO. for eight months until his retirement. They moved back to Holdrege in November of 1972. Rev. Bartsch passed away in February of 1987.

3 Daughters - Berdeen and husband Ron Roemmich of Omaha, NE.
DeMaris and husband Duane Humphrey of Fremont
DeAnne and husband Jack Crossley of Los Angeles, CA.
6 grandchildren - Kim Wright, Mark Roemmich, Kristen and husband Andy Bishop,
Diane and husband Steve Bean, David and wife Louise Humphrey,
Dana and husband Mark James.
6 great grandchildren
2 Sisters - Ruby and husband LeRoy Myers of Gig Harbor, WA.
Lois and husband Ted Williamson of Gig Harbor, WA.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers - Iver, Lester & Ralph Condy.

The funeral will be on 10:30am, Tuesday November 11, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. Burial will follow in the Prairie Home Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday November 10 from 3:00pm to 9:00pm with family receiving friends from 7pm to 8pm at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege.
