Elaine was born August 26, 1921 in Valentine, Nebraska to Clinton and Elizabeth (Howe) Smith. She grew up there, and graduated from high school in Valentine.

She married Elmer J. Johnson and they lived their married years in Omaha, Nebraska. She has been a Fremont resident the past 10 years. Elaine worked in the grocery business since her high school days. After moving to Fremont she did grocery store demonstrations for Tony's Pizza.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. And she was a 'Life Member' of the VFW Auxiliary in Omaha.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Elmer who died Dec. 25, 1969, also by an infant son, and a brother Jim Smith.

Son - Carl D. Johnson of Uehling
Daughter - Kathleen (husband Tom) Gilcrist of Arlington
5 grandchildren
6 great grandchildren
Sister - Lorraine (husband Ray) Ballard of Springview, NE.

Funeral will be 2pm Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fremont. Visitation is Sunday 2pm to 8pm, with family from 6pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. A Wake Service will be at 7:30pm at Ludvigsen Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The committal will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Omaha.

    She was a very kind woman who I enjoyed seeing very much. Even though I didn't know her more personally, I held a special place for her in my heart. Her body was frajile but i knew she was strong in mind and spirit. I know she will be very missed by all. My thoughts go out to all the family.
