Alan was born September 10, 1912 in rural Nickerson to Warren and Adelene 'Dimock' Mulliken. He grew up 2 miles south of Nickerson on the family farm of his parents, with 6 siblings. He was involved in 4-H and was named the second Dodge County 4-H King. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1929, and then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He earned his way through college by milking cows at the University dairy, and washing dishes in the main dining room of the college. He was also on the University Wrestling team. When his father's health began to fail, he left college half a semester short of graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture, to return to the home farm. It was early spring and time to plant corn.
He married Nellie McGavren June 9, 1940. They had three children, Jerry, Becky, and Jack. After World War II, the University of Nebraska asked him to help teach vocational agriculture classes to veterans who returned home to farm. Along with farming and a dairy, he served on the board of Rosedale School for a number of years. He also served on the Dodge County Weed Board. After turning the farm over to his boys, he and Nellie traveled across the United States, and visited several foreign countries.
Survivors include: wife - Nellie, son Jerry and wife Elizabeth Mulliken, of rural Nickerson, son Jack and wife Pam Mulliken of rural Nickerson and their children, Robert, Jennifer, Michelle, Kelsey, and Tyler, grandson Robert and wife Ryan Mulliken, granddaughter Liesa and husband Mitch Miller and their children, Alex and Emily.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents Warren and Adelene Mulliken, sisters Mercedes, Renee, Mary, Genevieve, Adele, and brother Harwood, and daughter Becky Mulliken Spencer.
The memorial service will be 1:30 PM Wednesday (April 1st) in the First Congregational Church, UCC, in Fremont with the Rev. Terri Akkerman. There is no public visitation. There will be a private committal in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church, UCC. Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, is handling the arrangements.

Minneapolis, MN Tuesday, March 31, 2009 Alan and Nellie were special to me when I was growing up. Alan helped lead my 4-H club and Nellie played the organ at my church. Alan cooperated with my father in farming and they shared some pieces of equipment as well as labor. Their daughter Becky was in my Sunday school class, the 4-H club lead by my mother, and graduated from Fremont High School with me. I have many loving memories of this family who was so close to our family growing up.Verdell & Deloris Stork
