Robert Steil was called home by our Heavenly Father on June 20, 2009. Bob was born in rural Dodge County to Harold and Augusta 'Kurz' Steil. He attended rural school in Nebraska then moved to California with his parents. The family returned to Scribner where Bob graduated from high school in 1948.

In 1949 he married Ruth Spath. This union was blessed with three sons: Stephen, Mark and Paul.

Upon graduation from high school, Bob began work with his father where they operated the Texaco Filling Station until 1956. Bob then became a representative for Prudential Life Insurance Company for approximately 13 years. For the next 10 years, Bob was employed at Iowa Beef Processing Company. His final full time employment was with the Scribner Public Schools. For several years, Bob was a custodian and loved working with the staff and students. It was during this time he was recognized by the Scribner Chamber of Commerce as employee of the year.

Various activities were recipients of Bob's talents. He was a charter member of the Scribner Rescue Squad, and was a volunteer fireman and squad member from 1951 to 1972. He served on the Scribner City Council. He was an active member of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Scribner and served several terms as a council member.
