Irene was born November 5, 1922 in Alberta, Canada. One of 7 children, she grew up, from the age of 12, in Montana and Idaho, later moving to Iowa.


She was married in LeMars, Iowa to Ernie Sills. They had lived in LeMars and Ames in Iowa, later moving to Mitchell, South Dakota where her husband was employed by Hormel's. Her husband died in 1974, and she remained in Mitchell until the mid 1980's when she moved to Pawnee, Nebraska. Later in the late 1990's, Irene moved to Scribner.

Irene had been active in the Senior Citizens Center in Scribner, and she had been a volunteer with the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging. She had been a member of the Congregational Church of Mitchell, South Dakota, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Mitchell. And she had been a member of the Eagles Club in Auburn, NE.

Survivors: daughter - Brenda Moreno of Scribner
2 sons - Larry and wife Jan Sills of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa
David and wife Marian Sills of Cedar City, Utah
15 grandchildren
16 great grandchildren
2 brothers - Harvey and wife Ginny Fischer of Iowa
Edward and wife Nancy Fischer of Iowa

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Ernie in 1974, her parents, 2 daughters Karen and Toni, a great grandson, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

There are no local services. All services will be under the direction of the Bittner Funeral Home in Mitchell, South Dakota with the interment in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Memorials may be directed to the family.
