Richard was born December 21, 1930 in Scribner to Frank and Elsie 'Lhotak' Glodowski. He attended school at District 29 and graduated from Scribner High School in 1949. He helped his dad and brother on a dairy and livestock farm west and south of Scribner until he went to the Army in 1952. Richard married Betty Popken in Hooper at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church on April 28, 1953. He left for active duty in Korea in May and was in Korea for 18 months. He returned home in the fall of 1955 and was a farm hand for Hans Nielsen east of Fremont until the fall of that year. He and Betty moved to a farm south of Scribner and started a dairy operation and had livestock and farmed there all of his life. He sold the dairy herd about 1993 but continued farming. Richard was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Scribner and was active in all of the church activities. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #3736 in North Bend and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2071 in Fremont. He was also a member of the VFW Post 8223 in North Bend and the American Legion Post 121 in Scribner. He served on the board of the Lower Elkhorn NRD for many years and served on the school board at District 93.

Richard's hobbies were photography, hunting fishing and square dancing, playing with his grandchildren, four-wheeling and just talking with people.
