Born on February 17, 1940, near Bremen, Kansas, to Ervin and Elsie Pronske, Ron was the fourth of five children. Growing up on farms in Kansas and later near Uehling, Nebraska, he learned the value of dedication early in life. He attended school at Immanuel Lutheran Church and graduated from Hooper High School.
A proud patriot, Ron served his country honorably in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper and cartographer with the 82nd Airborne and the 10th Special Forces Group as a Green Beret. Following his military service, he returned to Nebraska and married the love of his life, Kay Row, on June 13, 1965. Together, they made their home in Fremont for over six decades.
Ron possessed an unmatched work ethic and a profound appreciation for the outdoors. He was happiest hunting in the quiet of nature or helping family in the fields during harvest time. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he loyally cheered on the Nebraska Huskers, Green Bay Packers, and New York Yankees. Ron's devotion to his fellow veterans was evident through his active leadership as Chairman of the Cornhusker Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Association. He was also a faithful member of First Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Kay; his children, Kris (Omaha), Eric (Lincoln), and Niki (Fremont); his grandson, David (Fremont); and his sister, Kelly Ruwe of Troy, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Elsie; his sisters, Lura Johanson and Janet Marler; and his brother, Ervin LaRue Pronske.
There is no viewing but the family will receive friends on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel from 2pm to 4pm. The memorial service will be Monday, September 28, 2026 at First Lutheran Church in Fremont. Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard will take place at church. Burial will be at a later date in the Hooper Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family.
