She was born on April 4, 1922 in Hooper, NE, to George and Marie (Fischer) Hoegemeyer. She graduated from high school in Scribner, NE.

On June 14, 1942, Elveretta married Louis Meyer in Scribner, NE. They farmed in the area until 1948 when they moved to work, live and raise their family in Custer Sate Park, near Custer, SD. Louis preceded her in death in 1972. She later married John Sutterfield in 1978 in Rapid City, SD. John preceded her in death in 1996.

Elveretta had worked at the State Game Lodge in Custer State Park, as an office manager up until her retirement. After retirement, she and John enjoyed traveling and doing wood crafts to sell at craft fairs. They wintered in Arizona City, AZ. She has lived in Loveland since 1998, moving there from Custer, SD.

Elveretta was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loveland, and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML). She enjoyed volunteering at McKee Medical Center.

She loved attending concerts, quilting, and sewing. She enjoyed playing the piano and the organ, and played regularly for her fellow residents at the Wexford. Elveretta loved traveling, and just last November, visited Branson, MO with her dear friend Vic Strobel.

She is survived by
her sons: Gerry L. Meyer and wife Evonne of Loveland, and Tom Meyer and wife Theresa of LaPorte, CO; and grandchildren, Kristen and Steven Meyer, both of Loveland.
She is also survived by her step-sons: Frank Sutterfield and wife Rose of Custer, and David Sutterfield and wife Becky of Las Vegas, NV.
Elveretta is also preceded in death by her sons, Harlan Meyer and Johnny Meyer, her step-son Howard Sutterfield, her brother, Robert Hoegemeyer, and her sister, Valiera Stockamp.

A Funeral service will take place at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loveland. Visitation will be from 3-5:00 PM, Tuesday at Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home and prior to the service at the church.

Visitation will be on Friday from noon to 1:30 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Graveside services will be Friday at 2pm at Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. The Rev. Bruce Schut of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in care of Kibbey Fishburn Funeral Home. The family is inviting friends and family to the Clarion Inn (Formerly Wilderness Lodge) for coffee and cookies following the graveside service.
