On his return to Fremont, he worked in the family business owned by his father and uncle, the Peterson Machine and Supply Co.
On March 1, 1947, he was married to Gladys Paper in the First Baptist Church in Fremont. She preceded him in death in 1987. In 1964, following the sale of the family business in Fremont, Pete moved his family to Oakland, Nebraska and opened the Oakland Auto Supply. In 1986 he retired and later moved back to Fremont.
Pete was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fremont, the VFW Post 5543 of Oakland, American Legion Post 46 of Oakland and the Fremont Masonic Lodge No. 15, A.F. & A.M. Pete, in his earlier years played the accordion and had provided entertainment for organizations and nursing homes. He was also a fan of the Chicago Cubs.

He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys, parents Marvin and Evelyn Peterson, brother Marvin Peterson Jr., sister Marion Derry, infant daughter Diana, son-in-law Patrick Havranek.
A memorial service will be 10:30 AM Saturday (July 10th) in the First Baptist Church, Fremont, with Dr. David Bender and Rev. Leland Foreman officiating. Military services will be conducted at the church. A memorial fund will be established. There is no viewing, however the family will be receiving friends Friday evening, July 9th, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, from 6 to 8 PM.
