Julie Ann (Cockayne) Mengedoht passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026, while residing at Nye Pointe in Fremont. Previously, she had been residing on the family farm near Telebasta for 70 years.

Julie was born September 7, 1937, in Sheldon, IA, to Linn Porterfield and Mary Louise (Logan) Cockayne. She was their only child. Throughout her childhood, they lived in Sheldon, IA, Mitchell, South Dakota, and eventually made Fremont, NE, their home.

Julie married Orville Mengedoht on March 11, 1956. Together, they raised three wonderful children and a lot of farm animals. Including her favorite animal, the pig. She also was active in leading 4 - H through the girls' younger years, not only teaching her girls to sew, but also the neighbor girls in the 4-H club, and taught bible school for many years at the church. Throughout the years, Julie worked in a lot of businesses around the area, including Diers Supply, the Jewelry Hut, the Salebarn western store, Lagina's Dress Store and Camp Fontanelle.

Julie is survived by her husband of 70 years, Orville, Daughters Linda (Randy) Schafer of Scribner, Nancy (Steve) Davis of Hooper, Son, Jim(Tiffany) Mengedoht of Nickerson. Grandchildren Jessica Knuth, JJ Schafer, Janie Schafer, Mitch Davis, Elizabeth Kennemer, and Cameron Mengedoht, Great-Grandchildren Brayden, Alexa, and Jaxson Schafer, Maddie and Isaac Knuth, Asher and Isla Kennemer.

The memorial service will be 10:30am, Monday, July 13,2026 at Salem Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. Memorials may be directed to the Nickerson Rescue Squad or Salem Lutheran Church, Fontanelle.
