Died Saturday, September 6, 2025 at home.
Dennis, a child of the King - Jesus Christ was born January 16, 1951 in Red Cloud, Nebraska to George and Dorlene Niemeyer-Schumm. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1974 with a Bachelor of Architecture. He was a 5 year member of the UNL Marching and Concert Band where he played the Mellophone (French Horn). Dennis married Susan Williams August 30, 1975 after meeting at a movie theater where he was her manager. The couple lived in Mission, Kansas right out of college and stayed in Kansas City where he worked at Black and Veatch for over 18 years. He designed power plants which took the couple to many towns to supervise the build. They lived in Bangkok, Thailand; Fort Collins, Raleigh, and Charleston, South Carolina. They moved to Charleston in 1999 where he worked for Hightower Construction for over 12 years, and in 2023 started working for First Choice Designs, LLC and Velocity Enterprises, LLC. They moved to Fremont in June of 2025
Dennis' hobbies included traveling, art, cruising, Gospel music concerts, watching hockey and all sports, playing baseball and softball for years. He stayed extremely busy with his architecture which he loved, working up until last Friday.
Dennis was a member of the American Institute of Architects (A.I.A), Gideon's International, served as a Deacon at Isle of Palms Baptist Church, and was a member of Mt Pleasant Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, SC. He was loved by all, a brilliant mathematician, leader, friend, musician, listener, excellent architect and construction manager and will be missed. He has left this earth for his heavenly home, where he surely was greeted with the words, ''Well done, good and faithful servant.''
Dennis is survived by his wife Susan, siblings Gloria Jean Park, of Bailey, CO.; Marilyn Kay Schumm of Grand Island, Bonnie Jo Schumm of Greeley, NE. Stepbrothers, Wesley and Wendel Janssen both of Colorado, many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Dorlene Schumm, Stepmother Berniece Janssen-Schumm, brother Stephen Ray Schumm and step brother David Janssen.
Memorials are suggested to Gideons International.
There will be no local services, further services will be held in South Carolina at a later date.
