Died Saturday, March 29, 2025 at Nebraska Methodist in Omaha.
Jay was born January 19, 1963 in Fremont to Robert E. and Twila 'Duensing' Griffiths. He was raised in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School in 1981. Jay played baseball at Cloud County Community College then Ft. Hays State and finished up his Bachelor in Business Administration from Bellevue University.
Jay married Diane Hellmer on June 8, 1985 at Immanuel Lutheran Church on the State Line (between Nebraska and Kansas). After their marriage the couple made their home in Fremont where they raised their daughters Jayme and Erin. Jay worked for Jensen Tire and then for many years at Structural Component Systems retiring in January of 2023.
Jay was involved for many years with the Legion Baseball program both as a player and coach. He spent many years coaching his daughters in both softball and basketball. Jay was a former member of the Anglers and member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He loved bowling at the 30 bowl and golfing at Whitetail.

Erin (Connor) Niehaus of Omaha
Grandchildren - Ellie and Addie Bieker; Brynlee, Blakely and Collins Niehaus
Sister - Kim (Frank) Ferro of Raymore, MO.
Brothers - Matt and Mark Griffiths both of Dallas
Brother-in-law - Terry (Cammie) Hellmer of Beatrice
many nieces, nephews and other family
Jay was preceded in death by his wife Diane in July of 2018 and his parents.
The funeral will be 10am, Friday, April 4, 2025 at First Lutheran Church in Fremont, burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3pm to 8pm, with the family present from 5-8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to the Fremont Public Schools Foundation.
