Doris Mae Schroeder, age 96, left this earth on March 26, 2025 in Omaha, Nebraska, (Doris would have been 97 on April 9th of this year).

She was born April 9, 1928 on a farm in Arlington, Nebraska. The family moved to a farm near Scribner, Nebraska when she was 6 years old. She had an older sister Phyllis who passed away in. December 2020. She also had a brother Wendall who died when he was 2 years old. The family attended St. John's Ridgeley Church for many years.

Doris graduated from Scribner High School with honors in 1945. She was in the last class to be offered the Normal Training for teaching. She continued taking classes using her scholarship to Wayne State College. She taught in several country schools, and in Uehling and Fontanelle.

Doris married Robert Schroeder in 1950. Her daughter was born in 1952 in West Point, Nebraska. Robert had several jobs as a plumbing and heating contractor and job superintendent. Barbara, Doris and Bob lived in Scribner, Wahoo, North Platte and in 1954 they moved to Kearney, their son Scott was born 1957. In 1960 they moved to the house Bob built on 6th Avenue. Barbara and Scott attended Park Elementary School and both graduated from Kearney High School.

Bob traveled during the week for Anderson Plumbing and Heating. On the weekends he worked on the house, yard and other projects. Eventually he started his own business, Kearney Independent Plumbing and Heating. Doris was involved in the school PTA and other organizations. Doris organized and directed the cherub choir for children ages 5-7 years old. She loved music and enjoyed working with that age group. Doris was a Boy Scout leader for Scott and his classmates. Doris was also a Blue Bird and Campfire leader for Barb and her classmates. She was a Red Cross volunteer and for several years she was a docent at the historical Frank House on the campus of Kearney State College. In 2011 Bob and Doris were humbled to receive the Freedom Award as outstanding religious volunteerism Kearney.

Bob and Doris moved to Fremont, Nebraska in 2012. They loved Kearney and hated to move but decided the move would allow them to be closer to family. They lived in Fremont until 2016 and in the fall of 2016 moved to Aksarben Senior Living in Omaha, Nebraska.

Doris is survived by her daughter Barbara, son Scott and his wife Cindy and their two daughters Madison Schroeder of Missoula, Montana; and daughter Macey Incontro and her husband Tony and their two children, daughter Rossi and son Sammy who live in Gretna, Nebraska. Doris was always busy, cooking and baking. If anyone dropped by, she always had food and desserts for ready. She sewed Barbie Doll clothes, dresses and outfits for Barb, ballet outfits, and costumes for Halloween and high school musicals. She volunteered at First Lutheran church for events every week.
