Jerry was born October 20, 1936 on a farm west of Martinsburg, Nebraska to Orville and Frances 'Steele' Malcom. He attended grade schools in San Diego, CA, Manitou Springs, CO; Onawa, IA; Stuart, NE; and rural schools in Dixon County. He attended Allen High School in Allen, Nebraska his freshman year and then attended South Sioux City High School graduating in 1954. He then joined the US Navy for 3 years serving on the Howard W. Gilmore, which was a submarine tender and then the USS Alamo and Forestal putting these ships into commission, making him a plank owner of each ship. While in the Navy he got to spend one day on a submarine, went through the Panama Canal, and helped prepare the Atoll of Enewetak for a nuclear bomb test. He saw the ports of San Diego, Hawaii, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Norfolk and Key West.

After leaving the Navy he worked for Farner Bocken, Sioux Tools, and the Soil Conservation Service as a surveyor. He then attended Wayne State College on the GI bill graduating in April of 1963 with a BA in Business and Economics. He then worked for Shubb and Sterling in Sioux City, IA and Elanco in Omaha. He earned his CPA certificate and worked for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell before moving to Wayne and teaching at Wayne State College. In 1968 he opened his own accounting firm while teaching part-time at the college. In 1972 he left teaching to work on his own full-time. In 1995 he sold 2/3 of the business and in 2011 he fully retired.

On July 9, 1961 he married Deanna Schram and on January 22, 1981 he married Pat Harms Anderson.

In 1972 Jerry bought a metal detector and despite a rainy summer he went out and found many treasures. He returned several class rings to their owners and had quite a collection of metal toys and rings. He followed the Cleveland Indians after they won the pennant in 1948 and followed them until his death. He was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan holding season tickets through the Beef Club for many years. He was a member of the Fremont Coin Club, Wayne American Legion and the Fremont Presbyterian Church. He sang in the choir at the Fremont Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Mariner's Club.

Jerry is survived by daughters Shelly (Dale) Ronfeldt, Cathy Nelson, Amy (Mike) Backstrom and Katy (Bill) Kerrey; brother Larry (Trish) Malcom, sister Marlene Beckwith and sister-in-law Trudi Malcom, brothers-in-law Dan (Nancy) Witthuhn and Richard (Mary) Rhodes. Jerry is also survived by his grandchildren Audrey (Josh) Ho, Kaysee Malcom, Zachary (Myah) Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Wade and Renee Backstrom, Adam and Ben Ronfeldt, and Lindsey Coley, and Scott and Michelle Kerrey in addition to 12 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Pat on April 25, 2023, infant son Curtis, brother Wilmer Malcom and brother-in-law Corky Beckwith.

The funeral will be 10:30am, Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the Fremont Presbyterian Church. Memorials are suggested to the family. Visitation will be Friday from 3pm to 7pm with the family present from 5pm to 7pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Burial will be 10am, Monday, January 27, 2025 in the Omaha National Cemetery.
