Rob graduated from Fremont High School in 1962 after which his adventurous spirit led him to attend college in Gunnison, Colorado. Rob earned his bachelor's degree in 1968 from Western State College of Colorado (now called Western Colorado University) where he majored in art and business and minored in economics. Rob continued his business education in Saranac Lake, New York where he completed the American Management Association's Management Internship Program. Rob enlisted in the Army Reserves, and in January and February of 1970, completed his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. Rob was in the Army Reserve for six years, working as a mechanic.
A self-made man, Rob started his business, America Now, Inc. in 1974. The company began as a mail order company with its first location being in the former location of the Denver French Consulate. Rob rented a room just off the kitchen, and as the company grew, he expanded to use the entire basement. In its early days, the company sold to gift shops throughout Colorado. In honor of Colorado's Centennial, Rob created a special mirrored piece of art which was presented to the mayor. Eventually the company grew to the point of needing its own building for its specialized memorabilia and screen-printing operations. The company was successful for over 45 years, printing artwork on a variety of garment types and other items.
Rob was highly creative and excelled at art in many forms, including silversmithing, painting (acrylics, oils, watercolors), sculpting, glasswork, graphic design and screen printing. Rob also enjoyed working on cars, cooking, skiing, fishing, and ice racing his Volkswagen on frozen lakes near Steamboat Springs. He had a special interest in shortwave radios, and later in life, internet radios. He enjoyed watching the German news station Deutsche Welle due to its diverse coverage, the History and National Geographic channels, as well as old movie classics such as Casablanca and old westerns. He appreciated the music of Motown and music by classic country singers such as Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. In recent years he also enjoyed walking around his neighborhood, chatting with the neighbors. He had a charming sense of humor that was endearing to all who met him. He will be remembered for his creativity, work ethic, friendships, and sense of humor.
Rob is survived by his sister Barbara (Hal) Smith, and loving nieces and nephews, Rocklyn, Dixene, Dustin, Betsy, and Tyler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Hortense Schweser, and his brother Frederick Schweser.
The funeral will be 1pm, Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Burial will follow in the Columbus Cemetery.
