Lois Jean Hartmann, age 93, of Hooper
Died Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Nye Legacy in Fremont.

Lois Jean (Moseman) Hartmann was born May 14, 1930, in rural Dodge County south of Scribner, Nebraska, to Adolf and Katherine (Von Seggern) Moseman. She attended rural schools Dist. 12 and Dist. 14 and Hooper High School graduating in 1947. She obtained a three-year Teaching Certificate from Midland College (now Midland University) and taught in rural Dodge County Districts 35, 48, and Winslow District 85.

On June 12, 1949, she married Clarence W. Hartmann at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (rural Hooper). The couple farmed southwest of Hooper for 54 years. In December, 2003, they retired in Hooper. Lois Jean was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (Winslow) in the Missouri Synod. After her marriage, she and her husband were life-long members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper where she taught Sunday school, directed youth choir and Christmas pageants for several years. She sang in the choir and served on the church council. She was an avid promoter of agriculture, especially the beef industry. She was a director and president of the Nebraska Beef Council and director of the National Livestock and Meat Board for over 20 years. Lois Jean belonged to the American National Cattle Women, formerly the Cow Belles and organized the Nebraska Feeder's Auxiliary becoming the first president. She was a member of the Leadership, Education, Action, Development (LEAD) board and served as chairman of the state selection committee.

4-H was a part of her life for many years. She was leader of the local Klever Klover Klub and judged 4-H and open class exhibits on the county and state fair level. Lois Jean chaperoned two groups of 4-Her's to attend the Citizenship Short Course in Washington DC. Lois Jean was a 75-plus-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary (Unit #18) and held offices on the local, district, and state level. From 1983 to1987, UNL Chancellor Martin Massingale asked her to serve on his 20-member Advisory Committee and then helped organize and set up the Beef Pit at the Nebraska State Fair. She was recognized by several organizations for her leadership including the Aksarben and Nebraska Agricultural Hall of Achievement, and the Nebraska Agriculture Communications Council. She drove school bus for Logan View High School for 34 years.

Lois Jean is survived by her son, Glenn (and fiancé, Luella) of Garland, two daughters, Kay Ann of Fremont, and Darla (and friend, Kevin Sullivan) of Hooper, brother-in-law Dale Schnoor of Scribner, sisters-in-law, Kathy Moseman of Columbus and Norma Moseman of Fremont, granddaughter, Angela (Casey) Casselberry of Windber, Pennsylvania, great-grandchildren, Brooke Arey, Rebecca Swanda, Kodi Swanda, and Alex Casselberry, great-great-grandchildren, Persephone, Rhea, and Harper; and close family friend, Steve (Donna) Pipal of Fremont. She was preceded in death by husband, Clarence, son Lee, daughter Joni Rae, parents Adolf and Katherine, brother Burdell, sister Alice, and brother Larry.

The funeral will be 2pm, Friday, March 22, 2024 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. Burial will follow in the Hooper Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4pm to 8pm with the family present 5pm to 7pm at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel in Hooper.
