He grew up in Fremont and was a graduate of Fremont High School. He married Carol Roush in 1957 in Anchorage, Alaska. A son, Steven, was born in 1958. Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. After the military service, he attended Wayne State College and received a degree in Education and then received his Master's Degree in Administration from Kearney State College. He taught elementary education in Fremont, as well as in Arapahoe, Nebraska, where he also coached. He joined Millard Public Schools as an administrator and later taught as a classroom teacher. He married Jodean Kingston in 1981. He retired in 2000 from teaching and then worked over 20 years at Omaha Public Library.
Bill was an avid sports fan. He spent most of his career officiating sporting events. He received numerous awards for his officiating of track and field events. Family was very important to Bill. He enjoyed all of their activities and attended many of his grandchildren's events. In his early years, he enjoyed playing golf and was an avid reader.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wayne Bridges, and son, Steven Bridges.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jodean. Bill loved anything that brought family together and allowed him to be involved in the lives of those he loved. This large family included Mark and Mary Kingston, Debra Kingston, Robert and Eileen Kingston, and foster daughter Tammy Alexander. Bill and Jodean are blessed with 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his cousin, David and Connie Bridges, of Gretna.
Memorials are suggested to Fremont Public Library, St. James Episcopal Church in Fremont, and St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church in Elkhorn, Nebraska.
There is no viewing but the family will receive friends Thursday, August 24, from 5pm to 7pm at Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. The memorial service will be 10am Friday, August 25, at St. James Episcopal Church in Fremont.
