She was born September 21, 1931, 4 1/2 miles south of Scribner, to Alfred and Margret (Peters) Meyer. Marlene was baptized on December 6, 1931, by Reverend W. H. Moeller at Grace Lutheran Church in Hooper and confirmed on March 25, 1945, at the United Lutheran Church in Scribner by Reverend R.V. Davis. She knew Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, and remained a dedicated member of United Lutheran.
She attended rural District 12, and graduated in 1949 from Scribner High School. Following graduation, she worked for Milo Witt at his grocery store, and then at Lamberty Hardware. On April 22, 1951, Marlene married Kenneth D. Meyer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hooper. Together they raised two daughters, Jane and Sandra. As the girls grew older, Marlene worked for the Cordes Brother's grocery store. She ended her career working for the Scribner Bank for 21 years. She was awarded the Scribner Chamber Commerce Employee of the Year in 1997.
Marlene lived in rural Scribner her whole life, also serving as a farm wife to her husband Kenneth, before they moved to Fremont in April 2000. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2001 and had 57 happy years together before he passed in May, 2008. She cherished her role as a mother, Grandma and Great-Grandma.
For Marlene, church and family always came first! Marlene was an amazing cook, and enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. She loved trying new recipes and only the best ones made it to a handwritten recipe card in her collection. Marlene was an avid gardener and canned salsa, spaghetti sauce, and pickles for years. Every member of the family had a favorite food, and she always made enough to take home. She created beautiful crafts and quilts for her family. She always ensured every family member crossing her threshold was happy, healthy, safe, and well-fed before they left.
Marlene and Kenneth were dedicated Nebraska football fans and lifetime season ticket holders. They traveled to away games with a bus full of friends from Scribner and the surrounding area.
She loved attending events of her children, grandkids and great-grandkids. Her encouraging words and undying love lifted up her family and those around her. Marlene was a member of Smiles and the Newcomer's club in Fremont, and always enjoyed attending and planning some of their events. Marlene enjoyed quilting with her United Lutheran Church ladies. She was always up for a game of pitch, sheep-head, or pinochle.

Valasek of Omaha, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ginger Langemeier of Lincoln, Heidi and Eddie Couch, Emmett, Isaac and Benson of Mead, Scott and Jessica Langemeier and Owen of rural Scribner and Cody and Katie Valasek and Tate of Omaha, brothers-in-law Leonard Meyer and Lowell Bloemker, nieces and nephews, cousins, and many, many friends; all whom she loved dearly.

Grand Island, NE Tuesday, June 13, 2023 Marlene was a good friend and always willing to help. Always on the go. She had trouble sitting still at the Bank. She wanted to keep busy. Fun to be around and always had goodies available. She really got excited when they found a squirrel got in the house. I told Ken shotgun would work but he and Marlene didn't think that was a good Idea. She will be missed by her family and friends.Nancy Ann Harms
