Gunnar A. Nyholm was born on September 6, 1933 at Innisfail, Alberta, Canada and died on March 23, 2022. He was preceded in death by parents Dr. and Mrs. Paul C. Nyholm, brother Paul John Nyholm, sister Ellen Staack, niece Aimee Nyholm, nephew Kim Nyholm, son Paul Joseph Nyholm, and former spouse Margaret Fellows Nyholm.

Gunnar graduated from Blair High School in 1951, from Dana College in 1956, and earned a Masters Degree in educational administration from Omaha University in 1967. During high school and college years, his primary area of interest was whatever team sport was in season. Gunnar also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and in later years, trying to play golf.
Gunnar enjoyed 15 years in public school education, first as a teacher and coach, the last 4 years as superintendent. A career change occurred in 1971 when he accepted a position with Insurance Consultants Inc.to market employee benefit plans to various employers. Within a few years the major emphasis became working with both private and public school employers, mostly located throughout Nebraska.
Gunnar wishes to thank the many friends, both business and personal, for their support and confidence throughout the years. Your kindness has been much appreciated. In closing, and of far greater importance, it is his sincere hope that through the promises and mercy of OUR ONE TRUE GOD, we will meet again, and ''WE SHALL SEE HIM AS HE IS.''
The memorial service will be 10:30am, April 2, 2022 at First Lutheran Church in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Wisner, NE Thursday, March 31, 2022 Gunnar was both our teacher and superintendent in the last two years of Pilger High School. He placed so much confidence in both of us and had a very impactful influence on us. He was always so positive.Later, we had nice visits when I would occasionally see him at the Wisner-Pilger School when he came for the insurance.
Recently, he planned to return in 2019 to our Pilger High School Alumni Banquet and 50 year celebration of our 1968 football state championship. When health issues prevented him from attending, we took his celebration t-shirt to him meeting for lunch and a wonderful visit at the Village Inn in Fremont. Now, with COVID-19 waning, we had been talking of going to see him again.
We so appreciate his strong faith and are praying for all the large number of family and friends who grieve his leaving, that you will be comforted by the thought of him being in wonderful victory rejoicing with Jesus. Thanking God for every memory of Gunnar.

Omaha, NE Wednesday, March 30, 2022 We have great memories of Wednesday night bridge with Gunner at the Omaha Bridge Studio. He was a wonderful bridge player and a great conversationalist. The mark of a Christian is a joyful spirit - Gunner showed the joy he possessed in Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior inside and out. He lived his faith with a gentle demeanor that attracted everyone to him. A truly great man and loyal friend. Our condolences to his family and his countless friends in the bridge community. "You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." (Psalm 16:11) Rest in peace Gunner.Theresa Walter
Valley, NE Wednesday, March 30, 2022 Having Gunnar as my next door neighbor at the lake brought such joy to my life. When we first met he asked if he could buy me a drink on his deck, he wanted to teach me how to drink whiskey so he set up a flight of different whiskeys on his deck railing! We grew close over the years sharing stories, laughing, planting flowers, playing games and having meaningful conversations. He was a very special friend to me and I will miss him dearly.Todd Malouf
Omaha, NE Wednesday, March 30, 2022 I am very sorry to learn of Gunnar's passing. Being candid, I was just thinking about him recently. We worked together for several years at ICI, played some golf, did a little bird hunting and of course, shared a drink or two. I will always have great memories of him as a friend, business partner and just being a downright good guy. May he RIP and know that your family is in many people's prayers.Nancy & Larry Young
