Ginger was born in Fremont, Nebraska to Theodore Klein and Goldie Pearl Zimmerle Klein. She was the youngest of four daughters; Sisters Donna Grover, Theda Klein and Pat Snyder. She grew up and attended school in Fremont. In 1953 she married Fred Johnson. After her marriage to Fred she went to beauty school, where she finished her GED and obtained her beauticians license. Shortly thereafter, the couple moved and lived in the Scribner area for several years where she and her husband raised chickens and pigs. During this time she continued her pursuit of a beauty career and she had shops in both Scribner and Hooper.
After returning to Fremont, she was employed at Pendleton Woolen Mills, Valmont and later at 3M. Along the way, Ginger took up sewing and she became a self-taught, avid and gifted knitter and quilter. Ginger was also a skilled baker. She was especially fond of creating and baking a variety of breads and rolls. For several years, she sold her dog sweaters, quilts, jackets, kitchen cloths and other creations, as well her baked goods at the Fremont Farmers Market, where she had many regular customers and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Donna and Theda. She will be forever loved and missed by her husband Fred (a partner for 67 years) and her sister Pat, her two dogs Alice (Ali) - the silent partner and Julie - the little drummer, as well as her nephew Ted Snyder (Linda), niece Lori Schmidt (Craig) and their sons David and Bob, other relatives, her many friends and her neighbors of 40 years who loved her dearly.
Services will be held at a later date. Ludvigsen Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
