Burnell was born April 16th, 1940 in Fremont to Floyd and Gladys (Nelson) White. He grew up in Scribner and was baptized and confirmed at United Lutheran Church in Scribner. He attended Scribner Public Schools. As a young man, Burnell worked for his father at White Service in Scribner, Milligan Farms of Hooper, drove a semi-truck for Don Berg and Ebel Transfer before returning to work for his brother Robert White at White Service where he continued to work until his passing.
Burnell met the love of his life, Iona 'Vi' Walker Sullivan, and they married on May 29, 1971 in Elim Lutheran Church at Swaburg. Burnell became an instant father to five and following was a foster parent with his wife Vi, for 11 years to 39 children, many whom they saw through their high school graduation.
Burnell and his wife Vi, were a big part of the beginning of the Elkhorn Valley Country Music Association along with the Arnold family. He enjoyed tinkering on automobiles and lawnmowers and spent much of his time working on his 1947 Chevy Convertible.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Gladys, wife Iona 'Vi' White, son Randall Sullivan, of Rockwall, TX., daughter Crystal Sells of Omaha and sister-in-law Lois White of Scribner.
Burnell is survived by a large and loving family including brothers Robert, LaVern (Karen), Larry White, and sister Sandra (Randy) Dames all of Scribner. One niece and four nephews. Children Greg (Bonnie) Sullivan of Prairie Home, John (Misty) Sullivan of Fremont, Doug (Lynette) Sullivan of Omaha, daughters-in-law Yvonne Sullivan of Rockwall, TX., and Bev Anderson of Omaha. Grandchildren Tina, Burnie (Melissa), Amy, Trenton (Lindsay), Brittany, Larissa, Bryce, Aaron, Austin, Michael, Jensen, Christopher and Will. 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Memorial Visitation, Wednesday April 25, 5pm to 7pm at Ludvigsen's Scribner Funeral Chapel.
Graveside services with family and friends will be held May 6, 2018 at 2pm, at Elim Lutheran Cemetery, Swaburg, NE.
Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
