Rodney D. Hanson
April 6, 1947 - May 18, 2024
Rodney Dale Hanson, age 77, went home to be with His Lord and Savior Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Saunders Medical Center LTC in Wahoo, Nebraska
Rodney (Rod) was born April 6, 1947 to Albert L. and Dorothy E. (Thomas) Hanson. Rod was very proud of his middle name Dale because it was given to him in honor of his Uncle Dale Thomas who was a deceased WWII veteran. Rod attended and graduated from Fremont High School in 1965.
After high school, Rod attended a trade school where he learned auto repair and body work. This led to his lifelong love or race cars, muscle cars and working on his own car often. Soon the nickname ''Hot Rod'' was given to him. Rod, also loved going to tractor pulls, county fairs and rarely missed the annual 'River City Round-Up'.
In the late 1970's Rod worked for two years with Fred Mittan from the Mittan Remodeling Company of Wahoo doing remodeling and refinishing work of homes. From, there, he worked for his lifelong friend John Weir north of Fremont, during harvest. Rod also worked for the Helena chemical company driving a truck. Rodney finished his career by working several years for Walmart. Perhaps Rod's favorite job was being an AmSoil dealer selling synthetic oil and many other products to mechanics and farmers.
Rod moved to Valley Lakes Assisted Living in 2016, and in March of 2021 to Saunders Medical Center LTC in Wahoo where the staff and community became his extended family.
Rod loved Christian and Country Western music. His love of music grew as he developed a reputation for having a beautiful singing voice while singing in the choir for the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. In addition, Rod attended the Fremont evangelical church where he enjoyed many close and loving relationships with people. To his dying day, Rod would sing all the hymns after the daily devotional at Saunders Medical Center. His favorite hymn was ''Great Is Thy Faithfulness''.
Rod will be remembered for his love of Jesus, the scriptures, his church family and bible study and his amazing faith during times of adversity.
The memorial service will be 10:30am, Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. Memorials are suggested to the Saunders County Medical Center, Long Term Care Memory Unit.
