Katie Ellen (Stecher) Geisler entered into glory, with comfort and love, on Monday, October 5, 2026 at her granddaughter’s home in Iowa.

Katie’s stronghold was her faith in Jesus Christ and her family, her joy. Katie was born on April 12, 1929 and raised near Hooper, Nebraska on the Stecher family farm, with her sister Rose and brother Denny. Katie was the third child of Carrie (Wentzel) and Louis Stecher. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Hooper, Nebraska. Katie attended country school and graduated from Hooper High School and then Wayne Teachers College with a teaching degree. Katie taught K-8 in a one room school house, the original Logan View Country Grade School, until marrying her best friend and soul mate, Lowell. Katie and Lowell met in early 1950 and after two dates, they were engaged. They married May 28, 1950 and started farming a mile east of Winslow on the Geisler family farm. Katie was particularly proud of her 67 year marriage, until Lowell passed in 2017.

Katie liked to share stories from her childhood and her sense of humor always kept everyone laughing. She was optimistic, energetic, resourceful, intelligent, witty, warm, and she greatly valued hard work. Katie loved her life on the farm and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Her children, Peggy and Tom, along with her 6 grandchildren and later great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. It was important to Katie that her children and grandchildren learn and enjoy music, and she attended dozens of her children’s and grandchildren’s band, orchestra and choir events. Katie loved cooking and feeding people, and people loved the food she made; she always managed to find enough ingredients on hand to make a homemade meal for anyone and everyone who visited. Katie particularly enjoyed dressing up in whatever she could come up with as a Halloween costume and spending Halloween with her cousin, Darlene, surprising their grandchildren by trick or treating at their homes. Katie loved spending time with her friends and extended family, such as by attending family events, playing card and dice games, and eating out at Arby’s.

Katie considered her church family at both St John’s Lutheran and Immanuel Lutheran as her extended family; Sunday church was the highlight of her week the last several years. Katie will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband Lowell (2017), parents – Louis and Carrie Stecher, infant twins Jerry and Terry Geisler, sister – Rose and Willard Schulz, brother – Denny and Orletha Stecher.

"My condolences and love to Katie's family. I'm glad I was able to see her recently. She was a very unforgettable person. I will always remember our 4th of July get together and family visits back and forth. Remember her and I and my boyfriend Allen during the flood hanging out at my parents farm. She was always a lot of fun. She will be dearly missed."
