Rod was born March 26, 1946 in Fremont to Otto and Gertrude 'Steinke' Roemer. He lived in the Scribner area his whole life. Rod attended District 12 school and graduated from Scribner High School in 1964. After high school he served in the United States Army Reserve as a tank driver from 1964 to 1970. He was a lifetime farmer and truck driver working for the Scribner Grain Company.

Rod married Sandra Hoefner on May 19, 1968 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper.

Rod loved his family so much and looked forward to family get togethers, especially at their home. He loved the grandkids and the appearance of a grandson in the family made him so proud. He looked forward to seeing them so much. He loved his home and his German Shepherd Dog, Buster. He put a lot of work and effort into planting trees, another love.
