Katherine Teply Morfeld was born April 2, 1928 in Greeley County, Nebraska, the daughter of Joseph R. and Margaret 'Calley' Teply. She attended Stanton Country Schools. On January 4, 1949 Katherine married the love of her life, LaVern Morfeld in Leigh, Nebraska. The two began their life together on the farm near Stanton and later moved to Carrollton, MO., where they remained until LaVern's death in 2002.
Katherine worked at St. Mary's Catholic School in Carrollton as a cook. She was also a JCPenney Associate for over 40 years and later worked at Carl's Men's Wear. Katherine enjoyed many things during her almost 97 years of life. She was a devout Catholic and faithful servant of the Lord her entire life. She enjoyed being part of the RAO club in Carrollton. She and LaVern traveled with the group, played cards and helped with the turtle races every year at the Carroll County Fair. Katherine also loved spending time at the trailer she and LaVern had located by 2 lakes and the Grand River where they enjoyed hours of fishing and being in nature. Katherine had a passion for sewing. Her kids and grandkids were blessed with homemade outfits and dresses over the years. Family also enjoyed receiving embroidered quilts, hand towels and whatever else Grandma decided to sew. EVERYONE from her daughters through her great great grandchildren were given a handcrafted Christmas stocking to hang up for Santa at Christmas time. Katherine spent the final years of her life residing at St. Joseph Hillside Villa in West Point, where she was affectionately known as Kate. She enjoyed her time there and continued to sew, loved attending Mass, Bible Study and several other activities.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Carrollton and St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Scribner.
Katherine is survived by three daughters: Rose Mary VanDeventer of Columbia, MO; Mrs. Alison (Ed) Cockerill of Spalding, NE; and Carol Lou Papousek of Scribner. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant daughter Barbara, brother Leo Teply, sisters Irene Burda and Delores 'Dot' Burda, grandson, great grandson and 2 sons-in-law Jim & Russell.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to St. Joseph's Villa or the Scribner Rescue Squad.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 5pm to 7pm at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Scribner, a wake service will follow at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be noon, Thursday March 20, 2025 also at St. Lawrence.
