passed away at home on September 4, 2023
Wayne was born October 19, 1951 to William and Von Deen Wilson in Fremont. He spent several of his pre-school years wandering around Hooper and North Bend but, in 1955, settled down in his family's brand new house in Fremont where he spent all of his school years, graduating from Fremont Senior High in 1970.
Not one to sit idle for long, he soon heard Uncle Sam's call to arms, and (not by choice - the Draft) joined the Army for a glamourous 11 month tour of duty in Beautiful Vietnam, Cam Ranh Bay to be exact, through 1972 and then completed his four year enlistment in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After surviving military life, Wayne joined the wild and wacky world of radiator repair, initially at Voss Radiator and then on to owning his own business, Wilson Radiator. Eventually Wayne gave up self-employment and worked at several other businesses including Valmont and Jensen Tires, finally at Bauer Built until retiring a few years ago.
Wayne's true love had always been motor vehicles and music. His prized possessions were his 1972 Harley Sportster which he bought after Vietnam, a multitude of Pontiacs over the years, and a large collection of CDs, records and tapes.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father William 'Bill' and his sister Debbie.
Wayne is survived by his mother Von Deen, cat Squirt, his sisters Linda Lallman, Karen (Brian Freyermuth) Kelly of Blair, and Chris (Brett) Courcier of Fremont. He is also survived by two brothers Gary Wilson of Rochester, MN and James (Cecily) Wilson of Pacifica, CA.
There is no viewing but the family will receive friends on Thursday, September 14, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont from 5pm to 7pm. A memorial service will be held at 10am, Friday, September 15, 2023 also at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Omaha National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials can be directed to any local veteran's organization in Wayne's name.
