John R. Kennec

John was born January 26, 1927 in Fremont to John C. and Clara 'Goerz' Kennec. He grew up on the family farm in the Yutan/Leshara area of Saunders County. At the age of 12, he came with his family to Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School in 1944.

He entered the United States Navy in 1944 and served until 1946. On his return home, he began his employment with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves in November of 1949 and was called to active duty in March of 1951. He remained on active duty until July of 1952, and then was discharged from the reserves in March of 1953.

On his return home, he went back to the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He had been a fireman with the railroad and then became an engineer until his retirement.

John was a member of Sinai Lutheran Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854, both of Fremont. And he had been very active in trapshooting.

On June 20, 1948, he was married in Sinai Lutheran Church to Betty Arie.

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 30th, in Sinai Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Melang officiating. The committal will be in Ridge Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the Fremont Honor Guard of American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854.

Visitation will be in the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont on Tuesday (July 29th) from 2 to 8 PM.
