Leo was born on October 9, 1914 near Dodge, Nebraska and grew up there on a farm. His parents were John and Sophia (Brazada) Schlecht. Following his schooling, he began farming.

On Sept. 15, 1938, Leo was married in Beemer, Nebraska to Christina Toelle. They farmed near Dodge, and later they farmed north of Wisner, Nebraska. Then when they left the farm, they moved to Fremont . Leo worked for a time for the Chevrolet dealership in Fremont and then for Arbor Manor.

Leo was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Leo was preceded in death by a grandson Jay Herzinger, 3 brothers Joe, Alfred, & Wilbert, and sister Leona.

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday (Nov. 12th, 2008) in Trinity Lutheran Church, Fremont, with the Rev. Michael Meyer officiating. The committal will be in the Beemer Cemetery at 1:30 PM Wednesday.
Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont will be on Tuesday from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 PM., and Wednesday morning at the church for an hour before the funeral.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, Fremont, and Good Samaritan Center in Scribner.
