Marie was born on the farm northwest of Fremont to Ernest and Mary 'Dobrovolny' Soukup on July 15, 1922, and spent her life in that area. She attended school district 42 and graduated from Fremont High School. She also attended Midland College.
She worked for the F.W. Woolworth store in downtown Fremont, also Schweser's, and Gail's in the Fremont Mall.
On December 28, 1943, she married Raymond Nelson in the First Lutheran Church in Fremont. They lived on farms northwest of Fremont until moving into Fremont in 2002. Marie and Raymond were long time members of the Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Raymond on January 8, 2007, by their son Dan, and her brother Francis Soukup.
Surviving is her brother John Soukup of rural Fremont, niece Barb Baker and husband Glenn of Waco, Texas, nephews Carl Soukup of Fremont and Harold Soukup and wife Leona of North Bend.
The funeral service will be 1:30 PM Thursday (April 2nd) in the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel, Fremont, with the Rev. J.O. Baumgartner officiating. The committal will be in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, will be on Wednesday from 2 to 8 PM.
