Milton "Borgie" E. Borgmeyer

He was born May 10, 1921 in Scribner. His parents were the Rev. Edward L. and Gertrude (Kuhl) Borgmeyer. He was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church of rural Beemer. He attended St. John's Academy in Winfield, Kansas, later graduating from high school in Wisner in 1938.

After high school Borgie went to work for the Farmer's Union Co-op in Wisner managing the creamery division. In May of 1944, he joined the United States Navy and spent most of his time at sea in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during combat. Borgie served aboard the USS Phaon. In March of 1946, following military duty, he returned to Wisner and the Farmer's Union Co-op until going to work for Otto Albers Chevrolet in Wisner. In 1952, Borgie moved to Fremont and was employed by Nick Neff Motors. Then he worked for Diers Ford for many years until retiring. And then he went to work for the Sid Dillon dealership selling cars until his health began to fail in 2004.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. He was a 'Life Member' of VFW Post 854 and American Legion Post 20, both of Fremont. He was also a charter member of the WW II National Monument in Washington, DC. Borgie has enjoyed attending many of his ship's reunions over the years. And he was a member of the Sertoma Club and a 50 year member of the TPA.

On Febr. 4, 1940, he was married in Wisner to Wilma Marx and she preceded him in death on May 10, 1971. Later, on June 10, 1972, he was married in Pierce to Ethel Rosenkotter.

The funeral service will be 10:30 on Thursday (June 18, 2009) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Michael Meyer officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church and School. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2:00pm to 8:00pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church.
