Henry "Hank" Meyer

He was born October 14, 1924 in Platte Center, Nebraska to Louis and Meta (Settje) Meyer. He grew up on the family farm near Creston, Nebraska and graduated from Creston High School in 1941. He attended the Van Sant Business School.

A combat veteran, Hank served in the United States Navy from June 18, 1943 to Febr. 6, 1946. During his military service, his parents had moved to Fremont, so upon being discharged, Hank came here. He was employed by Jud Whitehead Heater Co., then he went to work for Hormel's. He retired from there in 1990, after 38 years.

Hank was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon and Head Usher. He helped organize cub scout pack 102 at Washington Elementary School and was active with that scout pack. He also served in leadership training for the boy scouts. Hank and his wife Vivian, were the first husband and wife team to receive the Life Membership Honor from the Washington School PTA. He was a volunteer fireman, and for 15 years, coached the Little League ball team sponsored by the volunteer fireman. Hank also worked with the American Legion Baseball for 12 years. He was active in Union Local 216, and helped start the Hormel Credit Union (now Fremont First Central Federal Credit Union) and had served as it's president and then CEO. He was currently serving on the board, and has served for 50 years. And he was president for 4 years of the Hormel Retirees. He was a member of American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854, and he was also a member of the Fremont Eagles Aerie 200.

On June 29, 1947, Hank was married to Vivian Kent.

Hank was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Terri Jo, his parents, Louis and Meta, brothers-Ralph 'Murph' Meyer, Phillip Meyer, and Kenneth Meyer

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Thursday (June 25th) at the First Baptist Church. The committal will be in Memorial Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the Fremont Honor Guard of American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church. Visitation will be in the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel, Fremont, on Wednesday from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.
