Max was born August 8, 1919 in Colome, South Dakota to Otho and Mable (Robertson) Woods. He grew up in South Dakota. Following his schooling, he worked in the wheat fields of Kansas.

He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from July of 1942 to January of 1946. He was the recipient of the American Area Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 9 Stars. Max saw duty aboard the USS Charrette (DD-581).

Following his military service, Max worked in construction in Fremont. Among the contractors he worked for were Gothard Sorman, Rudy Carlson, and Boschult Engineering. He also had worked in Omaha, where he belongs to the Construction Union, and he did construction work on his own. Max was a 'Life Member' of VFW Post 854.

On Febr. 7, 1945, Max was married to Betty Wintersteen in Marysville, Kansas. Betty preceded Max in death in December of 2003. He was also preceded by 2 sisters and 7 brothers.

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday (Oct. 2nd) at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. The committal will follow in Ridge Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the Fremont Honor Guard of American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Research.

Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont will be on Thursday (Oct. 1st) from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.
