Bertha was born May 2, 1914 in Dorchester, Nebraska to Albert and Sylvia (Cochnar) Nerud. She grew up in Dorchester and graduated from high school there. She worked as a substitute teacher for a time, then went to work in Lincoln.

On Febr. 24, 1940, Bertha was married in Crete, Nebraska to Lawrence 'Larry ' Leidig. They made their home in Fremont where Larry was working, and where he eventually became employed by the US Postal Service. Bertha worked baking and catering for many different events and families. She also provided child care over the years.

Bertha was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a past president of it's Ladies Aid. She had been a girl scout leader, and also cooked for the girl scout camp. And she was a member of the US Postal Service Auxiliary.

Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Larry in April of 2008, a daughter Brenda Ernesti, a grandson Fredrick John Ernesti, 2 sisters and a brother.

Survivors: daughter - Silvia Leidig of Ventura, Calif.
son - Paul Leidig of Lincoln

The funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church (16th & Luther Rd) with the Rev. Dan Heuer officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church and to the Make-a-wish Foundation.

Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, will be on Thursday from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.
