Louise Tuchenhagen

July 14, 2010

Louise Tuchenhagen, 99, of Fort Collins, Colorado (formerly of Scribner, Nebraska) died July 14, 2010, at the Sterling House where she was a resident since 2000.
Louise was born January 19, 1911, to John N. and Margareta Paper in Missouri Valley, Iowa where she was raised being baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at First Lutheran Church. She graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1929. Louise married Albert Tuchenhagen September 7, 1931, and spent the next 69 years living in Scribner, Nebraska. Albert and Louise owned and operated Tuchenhagen Hardware in Scribner until they retired in 1973 after 44 years in business.
Louise was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner where she was the organist for over 50 years as well as a member of the altar guild and Ladies' Aid. She was also a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Lutheran Family Services Auxiliary, and Seward Concordia Guild, often serving in leadership roles. Louise was a member of the Scribner Women's Club and served many years on the Board of the Scribner Museum.
Faith and family were important to Louise as demonstrated by her steadfast commitment to them. Louise loved music and reading throughout her life. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting, creating many blankets and afghans that were enjoyed by friends and family. Along with Albert, Louise was a prolific gardener keeping a yard filled with many different flowers, fruits and vegetables.
During Louise's time at the Sterling House she enjoyed the many activities and the people. The family has appreciated the caring and friendly environment the Sterling House and its entire staff provided to Louise, enriching her final years.
Louise was loved and admired by all who knew her. She was always very thoughtful, caring and gracious to everyone around her, especially those new to the community. She was a witness and inspiration to all and will be greatly missed.
