Mary J. Matteo
January 29, 1954 - February 14, 2026
Mary Jeanine Matteo, age 72, a lifelong resident of Fremont crossed over at home on February 14th, 2026.
Mary was born January 29th, 1954 to Wayne and Jeanine Riggs. She was a 1972 graduate of Fremont Senior High and went on to nursing school and spent her nursing career in the Fremont area retiring at age 58 from Nye Pointe where she was well known for her compassion and dedication to residents as well as their families. Mary had an adventurous soul enjoying many motorcycle vacations with her late husband, Tom and friends. Air boating and spending time at their cabin on the river. She also had many trips hot air ballooning with her sister, Kathy in Albuquerque. Mary enjoyed the simple things in life crocheting, cross stitching, gardening and the company of her parrot, Otis. Her greatest joy was the frequent company of her daughters and grandchildren.
Mary has reunited in heaven with her husband Tom, her parents, parent-in-laws Joseph and Delores Matteo, brother Mark Riggs, sister Karen Kelly, sister-in-law Michele Matteo, nephew Matthew and best friend, Nicholee Olson.
Survivors include daughters Amanda and Sara, treasured grandchildren McKenna, Emerson and Alyson Forsberg and Sam Barry. Brother John (Shelly) Riggs and sister Kathy (Jon) Schommer, brothers-in-law Mark (Scott) Matteo, Mike (Pat) Matteo, sisters-in-law Jayne Riggs, Mary (Brad) Allen and Annette (Royce) Connerly, Aunt Lavonne and beloved nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will take place Saturday June 27th at Southern Style, 648 N Broad St., in Fremont from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
