Kay A Hartmann

Kay Ann Hartmann, born November 6, 1954, to Clarence and Lois Jean (Moseman) Hartmann of rural Hooper. She passed away peacefully November 26 at her residence, Dunklau Gardens (Fremont), after a long illness.
Kay grew up on a farm near Hooper attending District 48 elementary school and graduating from Logan View High School in 1972. She was active in pep club, marching band as a majorette, drama club, and concert band as a flutist. Kay went on to graduate with an Associate in Arts Degree in 1974 from Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri.
Kay's career and employment in the local area included working at Schweser's in Fremont as an assistant buyer, at Brandeis in Omaha as a corporate buyer & visual merchandiser, and as well as a retailer for Gerald Sampter's Men's Wear (Fremont) and Dick's Western Store (Tekamah).
After moving to Lincoln, she became employed by the University of Nebraska (Lincoln) Mechanical Engineering department. During this employment, she served as president of the University of Nebraska Office Professionals Association (UNOPA). At UNL, Kay was instrumental in establishing the UNL support staff service award through a proposal to the Chancellor known as the Floyd S. Oldt Outstanding Staff award.
In 1994, Kay became disabled when a loss of consciousness would accompany her epileptic seizures from which she suffered for many years. Being a breast cancer survivor, she focused her efforts to volunteer for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life (Dodge County) from 2009-2012 achieving a fundraising mark of almost $16,000.00 in four years. In 2011, she focused her volunteer efforts towards the Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska (BIA-NE) where she was recognized with the ''Above and Beyond Award'' for her work with the organization. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross blood drive on a regular basis.
As a photography artist, she garnered awards on the local, regional, and state levels. Among places her work was exhibited were the Stuhr Museum in Grand Island and the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney.
Kay was a lifetime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church (Hooper), she often served as lector on several occasions. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit # 18 having served as Chaplain for both the local and District #7 levels for many years.
Kay enjoyed traveling internationally, deer hunting, flower arranging, and writing. She believed one person could make a difference and hoped along the way she has done that more than once.
Kay is survived by her brother Glenn of Garland, Nebraska, sister Darla of Hooper, and caretakers, Doug and Kathy Hartmann of Fremont. She is preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Joni Rae (in 1955) and younger brother, Lee (in 2017).
A celebration of life will be 10:30am, Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hooper, with internment at Hooper Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska. Visitation at church will be one hour before day of the service.
