Nancy Nell Janssen

March 7, 1940 - January 1, 2025

Nancy Nell (Bang) Janssen was born March 7, 1940 in Fremont to Arthur & Mabel (Knoell) Bang. She passed peacefully on January 1, 2025. Nancy was baptized and confirmed at Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church. She attended grade school at District #23 and graduated from Fremont High School in 1958. On April 10, 1960, she married Ramon Janssen at Grace Lutheran Church in Hooper. Nancy and Ray lived on a farm north of Nickerson until 1962 and then moved to Nickerson.

Nancy was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle, where she taught Sunday school and was a choir member for many years. She is a former member of the Nickerson Ladies Auxiliary and former member of the Ladies Legislative Organization in Lincoln.

Nancy worked in the grocery stores that she and Ray owned and operated for many years - Nickerson Market in Nickerson and City Meat Market in Hooper. She enjoyed her work and the people she met.

Nancy loved her God and her family. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her children Nick (Susan) Janssen, Michael (Vicki) Janssen and Nola (David) Swenson, sister Elaine Brand, brother-in-law Leigh (Sandy) Janssen, sisters-in-law Leslie Janssen and Ann Keene, seven grandchildren - Alex (Alanna) Janssen, Lauren (Bryce) Smith, Elly (Justin) Johnson, Emily Janssen (fiancée Eddie Vacek), Elliot (Kyle) Janssen-Hufferd, Maggie Swenson (Drake Rector), and Vance (Natalie) Janssen, five great-granddaughters, one step great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Ramon, her parents Art and Mabel Bang, father and mother in-law Earl and Harriett Janssen, brother and sister-in-law Lyle and Jeanyne Bang, brother-in law Duane Brand, sister-in-law Erlaine Plugge, brothers-in-law Monte Janssen and Lyle Plugge, and nephew Colin Janssen.

Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle.

The funeral will be 10am, Monday, January 6, 2025 at Salem Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. Burial will follow in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, with the family present from 2pm to 5pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.
