Elwood H. Wobken

September 15, 1931 - May 28, 2024

Elwood H. Wobken, age 92 of Hooper, died Tuesday May 28, 2024 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont.

Elwood was born September 15, 1931 on the family farm in rural Hooper to Herman and Else (Kunz) Wobken. He graduated from Hooper High School in 1948. Elwood was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Hooper where he was baptized and confirmed. He also served on the church council.

In 1951 Elwood enlisted into the U.S. Air Force where he served under the National Security Agency in Washington D.C. until 1955. On November 25, 1956 he married Bonnie Wiley at Elim Lutheran Church. They celebrated 65 years of marriage. They lived on the family farm until retiring and moving to Hooper in 2000. A farmer at heart Elwood moved from corn and beans to flowers upon retiring. He would grow over 1800 plants from seeds every winter/spring and nurture them to beautiful flowerbeds and flower pot designs that was enjoyed by family and friends as well as many others that would stop by just to see.

Elwood served on the Dist.54, Broadview and Logan View School Boards, the Uehling Co-Op Board, The Rural Winslow Fire Board and was a member of the Uehling American Legion and 40&8. He was an active member of the Dodge County Feeders and Farm Bureau and also served Dodge County Building Inspection and Zoning.

16 Great-grandchildren-Olivia, Braydon, Jaxton, Jaydon, Tinsley, Boston, Penny, Phoebe, Ryker, August, Paisyn, Bridger, Callum, Lincoln, Colter and Jack.

Elwood was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie in December of 2021, parents and infant granddaughter Makayla Wobken.

The funeral will be 2pm, Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Hooper. Rev. Judy Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be Monday from 4pm to 8pm with the family present from 6pm to 8pm at Ludvigsen's Hooper Funeral Chapel. A memorial will be determined at a later date.

Light refreshments will be served at the American Legion Hall in Hooper following the burial.
